What is DropShip Intelligence?
DropShip Intelligence (DSI) is a Shopify app that calculates your exact landed cost — import duties, VAT, and shipping — for products sourced from Chinese suppliers and sold in 15 countries. Instead of guessing your margins, you see the real profit in local currency before you place a single order. The app also includes AI-powered product research, supplier comparison, margin alerts, and profit analytics.
How do I install DSI on my Shopify store?
Visit the Shopify App Store listing and click Install. You'll be redirected to your Shopify admin to approve the permissions. The entire process takes less than 30 seconds. No credit card is needed for the free plan.
Is there a free plan? What's included?
Yes. The free plan includes 3 searches per month (5 in your first month), full landed cost calculation for all 15 countries, the margin calculator with "What If?" scenarios, and 5 Ask DSI questions. No credit card required, no time limit — it's free forever.
Which Shopify plans are supported?
DSI works with all Shopify plans — Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Plus. There are no plan restrictions.
Landed cost & how it works
What is "landed cost" and why does it matter?
Landed cost is the total cost of getting a product to your customer — not just the supplier price, but also import duties, VAT/GST, international shipping, and any handling fees. Most dropshippers only look at the AliExpress price and think they know their margin. In reality, customs charges can add 15–45% to the product cost depending on the destination country. That's the difference between a profitable product and a money-losing one.
How does DSI calculate import duties?
DSI maps each product to the appropriate HS code category and applies the destination country's official duty rates. We maintain duty rates sourced from official customs authorities (SARS for South Africa, KRA for Kenya, Receita Federal for Brazil, etc.) and update them regularly. The calculation includes the duty rate, any additional levies (like Kenya's IDF levy or Railway Development Levy), and the applicable VAT/GST rate.
Which countries are supported?
DSI currently covers 15 destination countries across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific:
Africa: South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt
Middle East: UAE, Saudi Arabia
Latin America: Brazil, Mexico, Chile
Asia-Pacific: India, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia
Other: Turkey, United Kingdom
All products are sourced from China (AliExpress, CJ Dropshipping, Mercado Libre). More countries are added based on merchant demand.
How accurate are the duty and VAT calculations?
Our duty rates are sourced from each country's official customs authority and audited regularly. They're accurate for the product categories we support. However, actual customs charges can vary slightly based on the exact HS code classification, declared value, and local customs officer discretion. DSI gives you a reliable estimate — typically within 1–3% of the actual charge — which is far better than guessing.
Where does DSI get its product and supplier data?
DSI pulls live data from AliExpress (product pricing, supplier ratings, order volumes, shipping options), CJ Dropshipping, and Mercado Libre. Prices and shipping costs are fetched in real-time when you run a search, so you're always seeing current data — not cached prices from weeks ago.
Features
How does AI Product Research work?
Pick a category and enter a product name (or upload a photo). DSI's AI searches across suppliers, evaluates products by order volume, pricing, and supplier reliability, then returns up to 7 product cards — each showing the full landed cost breakdown for your selected country. The entire process takes about 5 seconds.
How does image/photo search work?
Upload any product image (from Instagram, a competitor's store, or your camera roll) and DSI's vision AI identifies the product, finds matching suppliers on AliExpress, and calculates the landed cost for each — all from a single photo. It's the fastest way to go from "I saw this product" to "here's my exact margin."
What is the Margin Calculator?
The Margin Calculator lets you drag a sell price slider and instantly see your profit after all costs (supplier price, duties, VAT, shipping). It includes "What If?" scenarios where you can compare the same product across different countries side-by-side to find the most profitable market to sell in.
What are margin alerts and price tracking?
Available on Growth plans and above. DSI monitors the supplier prices of products you're tracking. If a supplier raises their price (which eats your margin) or if your margin drops below a threshold, you get an alert so you can adjust your sell price or find a new supplier before you lose money.
What is the Pulse Dashboard?
Pulse is DSI's analytics dashboard that shows you real profit per product once you start selling. It has 6 sub-tabs: Overview (product health scores), Stock (reorder signals + stock-out predictions), P&L (true profit/loss per SKU after all costs), Returns (return rate tracking), LTV (customer lifetime value), and Cash Flow (90-day projections). Available fully on Pro and Agency plans.
What is Ask DSI?
Ask DSI is an AI assistant built into the app that answers landed-cost and import-related questions about your products and markets. Ask things like "What's the duty rate for electronics in South Africa?" or "Which of my tracked products has the best margin?" It's included on all plans (5 questions/month on Free, 30 on Pro).
Plans & billing
What plans are available and how much do they cost?
Free — $0/month (3 searches, full landed cost, margin calculator) Growth — $19.99/month (30 searches, price alerts, trend sparklines) Pro — $39.99/month (80 searches, AliExpress ordering, full Pulse dashboard) Agency — $79.99/month (200 searches, multi-store, API access)
Annual billing saves 6–12%. All plans are charged through Shopify's billing system.
How does billing work?
All charges go through Shopify's billing system — they appear on your regular Shopify invoice. No separate payment method is needed. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time from within the app.
Can I upgrade or downgrade at any time?
Yes. You can switch plans at any time from the app's settings. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle. You can also cancel entirely — your data is retained for 30 days in case you come back.
What counts as a "search"?
One search = one product research query (text or image). Each search returns up to 7 product results with full landed cost breakdowns. Using the margin calculator, changing countries on existing results, or asking DSI questions does not consume a search. Only new product research queries count.
Data & privacy
What data does DSI access from my store?
DSI requests access to products (to create Shopify listings from research results) and orders (to power Pulse analytics — profit tracking, returns, and LTV). We also access basic store info (currency, country) and device/activity data for app functionality. We do not access or store customer personal data (emails, addresses, payment info). See our full Privacy Policy.
Is my data shared with third parties?
No. Your store data is never sold or shared with third parties. We use Anthropic's AI for product research (product queries only — no store data is sent). All store data stays within DSI's secure infrastructure. We comply with Shopify's data protection requirements and GDPR.
What happens to my data if I uninstall?
When you uninstall, we retain your data for 30 days in case you reinstall. After 30 days, all store data is permanently deleted. You can also request immediate deletion by emailing support@lietlsolutions.com. We process all Shopify GDPR webhooks (customer data request, customer data erasure, shop data erasure) automatically.
Still have questions?
Our support team typically responds within a few hours. You can also ask DSI directly inside the app.
